The DOD website http://www.dod.nic.in was hosted in NIC's Server and was updated subsequently. A Hindi version of the DOD's website was also introduced. A website on NIOT http://www.niot.ernet.in was inaugurated on 15.9.2000 by Hon'ble Minister for Ocean Development. For enhancing the utility of the Department's website for the benefit of Members of Parliament and common man, the annual reports of the Department for the last 10 years; Performance Budget of last 5 years; Detailed Demand for grants for 2000-2001 and Ocean News (Issue July, Sept. 2000 onwards) in Hindi and English, were incorporated in the website.

Initiatives have also been taken to implement the following Minimum Agenda for E-Governance in a time bound manner, in the Department.

Setting up of LAN

Training of all the staff having access to Computer.

Use of pay roll accounting and other house keeping software.

Notice for internal meetings by E-mail

Submission of Leave application and tour proposal electronically

Setting up on line notice board.

Use of Web-enabled Grievance Redressal Software.

Setting up of the Department's own web site bilingually.

Conversion of Acts, Rules, Circulars into electronic form and making them available on internet.

Making the forms available online and enabling the users to complete and submit the forms on-line

Development of packages for electronic delivery of services
