The planetary boundary layer programme provides the
basic atmospheric parameters and features of Antarctic
climate. It also gives information of the exchange
phenomena between lower and upper parts of the planetary
atmosphere.
Radiation budget studies and the study of the minor
constituents of the atmosphere including suspended
particulate matter and aerosol gives a picture of the
dynamics of the atmosphere upto a hight of almost 50 km.
Deployment of sophisticated equipments like laser
heterodyne and millimeter to give a very precise vertical
profile of ozone as well as measurement of ozone levels
all the year round.
Experiments on optical aeronomy will throw light on
the emission of optical aurora for investigating the
interactions of solar plasma with geomagnetic field and
the proton precipitation in the ionosphere.
Velocity of mobile auroral currents are regularly
monitored using an array of fluxgate magnetometers so as
to elucidate the near and deep space current processes.
